Monterey Beach Proposal
The best feeling in the world? When a good friend asks you to take photographs of their proposal!
I have known Alan and Kiara for a while now β we met through my old roommates. So when he submitted an inquiry through my website, we hopped on a call to discuss details. I could immediately feel the thrill and excitement in his voice! He told me that they planned a weekend trip to Monterey and he was intending to pop the question. Naturally, I was so thrilled about shooting their Monterey proposal photography session!
Luckily, I also had a weekend trip to Monterey a couple of weekends before the actual proposal, and I was able to do location scouting for him. As we began planning, I sent my recommendations via Instagram so he could choose the perfect spot.
In the meanwhile, my master plan started to unfold perfectly! Because I knew we were attending one of our mutual friendβs birthday party, it was decided to chat them up at the party about any upcoming trips. Kiara enthusiastically shared that they were going on a trip to Monterey upon which I responded that that was super exciting! I used this chance to ask her later on Instagram whether she and Alan would agree to be my models. My plan involved a fake story about how I needed models for a particular spot as I was doing a βlocation scoutingβ for another couple. Without much thinking, she agreed to model for me. Of course, I was already thinking βyassss, this part of my ploy went smoothlyβ! Basically, she had no idea that she was going to be the star of this model session!
When you are doing a destination engagement session, the weather is everything. Monterey is usually very foggy, but we were sooo lucky to have sunny weather that day! We started with the photo session, and I had another friend present to help me set the plan in motion. I told Kiara to turn to the ocean so I could take pictures of her alone. While she was looking into the distance, I signaled Alan to get in position. Then all I had to do was tell Kiara to turn around to me, and there he was β Alan on one knee!
The proposal was super sweet and intimate. Kiara said yes, and she also shed a few tears, making the Monterey proposal photography session even more heartwarming. In addition, we took some photos of all the happy feels before heading to celebrate their new chapter! Felt so wonderful and fulfilling to capture the love story of this amazing and sweet couple. Their candid emotions are why I love my job! It was a pleasure to be a part of their epic moment.
