Sonoma County Birthday Party Photos
When one turns 80 years old, one must have a celebration of some sorts, which is what happened to Abuelita- a sweet, precious grandma loved by everyone.
Nancy, one of Abuelitaβs grandchildren, contacted me and asked if I was interested in documenting the great surprise party. Of course, I immediately said yes!! The party was held at her uncleβs place: an open space that had a big tent with chairs, a pastry station, and even a small dance floor.
The weather turned out to be much hotter than anyone thought (her party was in August), but that didnβt stop family members and friends from enjoying themselves, and it most certainly didnβt stop Abuelita from chatting and hanging out with everyone. There were happy tears, speeches given, songs sang, lots of hugging, and dancing.
In case you happen to be curious, Abuelita has thirteen kids, 43 grandkids, and 21 great-grandkids! The birthday celebration was definitely a family effort, as everything from the food to the decorations were handmade. The center pieces were inspired by Abuelitaβs love of flowers/gardening, and the pastry station added a modern twist (another fabulous idea from the granddaughters). To highlight Abuelitaβs love of green, her sons all wore green dress shirts π Every detail was inspired by Abuelita for Abuelita. This party was a giant βthank youβ from her whole family- she is the most selfless person in the world and deserved to be celebrated.
I felt so honored to be a part of Abuelitaβs 80th birthday celebration- I am so amazed at the legacy that she has created and will leave behind, and the love that everyone has for each other is inspiring.
Abuelita, keep doing your thang! I say 80 is the new 50 π
Nancy: My favorite thing about Abuelita is the thing I take the most inspiration from- her strength. She has gracefully taken on challenges and overcome them without a complaint.
Nancy: She takes everyday as a blessing and never takes anything for granted. Her family is the most important thing in her life. When sheβs around her kids and grandkids, she is smiling from ear to ear. I am always so proud of this amazing family that she created.
